Lately, i've been pretty good on not eating sweets late and being healthy, but tonight i'm making an exception. Almost had a AWFUL mishap tonight of printing with no ink. With a Portfolio review the next day!!! For the first time ever luck was on my side. Because of an old friend and a hint of luck. It pays off staying in touch and nice to everyone you meet (not saying that's the only reason to do so. You should be nice to everyone regardless. it's just good manners (?)).

So I got give thanks to some sort of higher power, wether it be a jew g=d or not. Just wanted to say thanks for not making me hate this night.

Sometimes you have to be thankful for the little things in life and the good people you are surrounded by. We get so caught up in the hectic everyday stuff, we don't always appreciate the people around us. On that note I'm going to get back to printing and arranging my portfolio.

I had been re-watching all of her old episodes on you tube, when i realized the feeling that was creeping up on me wasn't a nostalgic emotion, but more of a tripping out vibe. So I went with that vibe and got this ^. Seriously, If you have the chance, go on youtube and watch some of the episodes. There is something incredibly raw and unsettling about them, but still keeping with the 60's vibe of when she got founded and established her career.

hey I'm back with some art work and some cute explanations to go along with some of them <3.

My fashion illustration for "Band of Outsider". It's a fashion line that I'm in love with. Why is everything pretty so damn expensive??? This is why I shouldn't watch Gossip Girls... It's ruined my sense of affordable style. ...I wanna go thrift store shopping tomorrow. maybe?

My freebies illustration. I'm going to fix her boots and get rid of the snow flakes. Plus, i need to fix the perspective of the buildings. but all in all I'm pretty happy with this one.

I've been feeling more and more un-me. I feel like i've changed my original style so much to the point where I don't even really recognize the stuff I've finished. Is it to please my teacher? catch up to my friends? Or even worse.. trying to be someone I'm not?

should I be a flexible artist or a stable, stagnatly styled artist like many of my friends?

Am I growing in art? or de-volving in to a fetus-like state?

Maybe I should go back to my funnier, sillier style. the one that was more... well. me.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just tired. It's weird to be still defining yourself at this age. Maybe I'm no good at this. who am I suppose to be?

Margane Satrapi

Yesterday, i had the rare chance to go to an award/ interview to the fatally, talented Illustrator/cartoonist/ director Margane Satrapi. She is an Iranian and French contemporary graphic novelist, illustrator, Academy Award-nominated animated film director, and children's book author. She is most famous for having directed the film and wrote the graphic novel (or "comic" as she prefers to call it) "Persepolis."

Persepolis is the tale/ autobiography of her growing from a child to a young woman between Iran and Paris during the time from when the Shah was over thrown and the uprising of the extremist religious groups we see today. Satrapi grew up in Tehran in a family that was involved with the communist and socialist movements in Iran, prior to the Iranian Revolution. She attended the Lycée Français there and witnessed, as a child, the growing suppression of civil liberties and the everyday consequences of the life of Iranian politics, including the fall of the Shah, the early regime of Ruhollah Khomeini, and the first years of the Iran-Iraq war. I highly suggest you read up on this as to not to feel ignorant or misinformed when you see the truly personal perspective Mrs. Satrapi displays before our eyes and hearts.

She is a highly talented, cultured and intelligent woman who has the rare gift of being as honest as she feels. She gave one of the most eye opening and culturally relevant interviews I've heard from a woman of her stature. She was an absolute pleasure and my only distaste is from the fact I couldn't meet her in person and get her signature on my friend's book. The line was tremendous.

I also enjoyed the variety of people in the audience. It varied from the rich, elderly and political upper-crust of Philadelphia's social scene to a variety of regular civilians, children, parents, teachers, students and even a hobo or two. haha what a crowd! Margane even stared at us when we gave her a quick standing ovation, although it could have been due to my friend, Nikki (she has the most outrageous purple hair). Nikki got a kick out of that and skipped out of there over the fact she was noticed in such a way by Mrs. Satrapi. We were hoping to at the very least bump intoher outside (she is an avid smoker) but to no avail.

What a great expereince. I highly recommend her work. Go out and buy the books <3>

I feed on their pretty patterns and form fitting shapes. Truly, if there was a god of fashion, he would let me inherit a closet full of dresses in my size.

This project is for Figurative communication. We had to pick a well known face to draw and I chose Kristin Chenoweth because she is made of sunshine and awesomeness. She is a tiny woman with a lot of soul. And I'm super jealous of her legs.

For those of you who don't know, Kristin Chenoweth is an Emmy Award- and Tony Award-winning American singer, musical theatre, film, and television actress, and author. Some of her best-known roles have included her role as Sally Brown in Broadway's You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, her role as Glinda in Broadway's Wicked, and her role as Annabeth Schott in television's The West Wing. She most recently appeared in the role of Olive Snook on the ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy in 2009. ^[2] Chenoweth is also the face of Jude Frances jewelry. She is also known for distinctive speaking voice and even she has compared her voice to that of Betty Boop. She actaully has a similar body type. In short, she's adorable and was my all time fav, series character. ever.

I was stuck between making her a doggie or lion trainer. But then I realized that Kristen character is someone who choses something very out of reach and almost crazy. So then I got this hilarious image in my mind of her singing on a High wire. I was hooked and this is what blossomed. I'm doing the image of her looking up at an angle. I'm using myself as a reference photos below. I think I'm going to put hair accessory references on her accomplishments <3

So this first project is to design a show poster for an upcoming concert of our choice. It's only requirements are that 1) it has to show/venue we are either attending or that is at a near by city/location 2) there must be 3 final sketches 3) they must be as detailed and organized as possible.

I naturally chose one of rock's most influential and crucial bands: The PIXIES!!!

These are the final sketches I decided on:

Matt Curtius ( my professor) enjoyed the fish poster the most so It was voted and I'm doing the fish poster. Which isn't too bad, but i really wanted to do the waitressing poster. It's awkwardly fun. Ah well, I'm pretty pumped about this because I'm going to this concert! GESSIE YOU RULE! It's going to be the most badass concert ever. I'll love the pixies till the end of time.

Also... Today was Nikki's Birthday! I made cupcakes for the class which seemed to make everyone pretty happy. maybe I should bake every class? :D Although, I'm not sure my wallet could handle that...

Chloë Stevens Sevigny

This post is really just for me since I adore her.

Sevigny the daughter of Janine (née Malinowski) and H. David Sevigny, is my absolute idol and favorite actress fashionista. When she was only 18 Sevigny moved into her own apartment at age 18 in Brooklyn. She was a former fashion model herself, Sevigny has expressed interest in fashion design and has released several collections designed by herself, first in 2007. She currently has a new line of unisex/men's clothing slated for release in fall 2009, which i would totally want to wear if: (1) I could afford it and (2) If had the body to wear unisex clothing.. which i don't. What I really enoy about Chloe is her unabashedly open and honest attitude in not only her acting but her fashion. She is also an extremely family oriented person which is why when her dad passed away, I really felt for her. Not only that but she is a total NYC girl from the get-go. As an obvious trend center and film art lover, she doesn't act like a typical actress but rather a low key writer/ artist. She is also the poster girl for Uniqlo (US) and since I already loved uniqlo this just made me love her more.

It all started in 1993, after hanging out with Manhattan skateboarders, she was spotted on an East Village street by a fashion editor of Sassy Magazine, who was so impressed by Sevigny's style that she asked her to intern at the magazine. She later modeled in the magazine as well as for x-girl, the fashion label of Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. She also appeared on the album cover of The Gigolo Aunts' 1994 recording Flippin Out' and the EP Full-On Bloom.

I'm being a fashion and film nerd right now by merely just praising her. so I'm being very biased.

On another note my scanner STILL isn't working. DAMN YOU HP PRINTER! Why won't you love me?? I just want to post my artwork!!! I hate technology and yet I can't live without it. I'm such a hypocrite.

On the plus side I finally mastered liquid eyeliner and Got to watch all of O'grady!!!!!! I'm getting really good at makeup now. I'm going to try not to look like a mess for illustration classes like i did last year... ugh. those were some OOOUGLy days. AND i've been hit on alot this month! Thank you horoscope! gunna go watch more ogrady. why is this show so Fricking halarious??

Lindsay is back in Philly which makes this upcoming week all the sweeter. I had a fun night out with her and the theatre peeps. Probably should call Kate and Nikki to see what's going on... John Laing had a party tonight but i made previous plans. not really in a drinking mood anyways. next time! I need my friends. Life is a long and tough road without the people you care about.

my dreams make me realize what a petty person I am

Last night's dream was truly bizarre and frightened me in way I'm not used to.

I dunno, but in dream world I tend to be very isolated and I suppose in a lesser sense, insecure person. I had a dream that I was living with all my philly friends in a dystopic Philadelphia. We were all homeless nomads traveling from park to park and suddenly a new person arrives in the group. Just a random guy who seemed friendly enough. The next day I wake up in my sleeping bag and everyone is gone. The tents, fires, dogs, luggage and every person has left without a trace. no notes, no letters, no messages on my phone. I was utterly abandoned on my means.

So I walked around the city calling everyone's name and pretty much searching every nook and cranny. This goes on for a few nights and each night becomes more dangerous on my own in the city. The parks and the people are less friendly each time and I have rocks thrown at me from buildings. I'm hungry, tired and depleted.

Suddenly I see some familiar faces and run to them but they get out of reach each time I try to get closer. Eventually I find every one of my friends in a dilapidated old train station. I call out at my friends, happy just to see them, but no one waves back. Not even my closest of friends.No one seems to even care at my arrival. The random, friendly guy that had shown up before had taken control of the group and become sort of a clan Leader. He shouts to the group that I'm an outsider and I can't be trusted. As this happens I run to a close friend who shoves me away and throws a rock at me. Some are chasing me and throwing rocks. I trip and fall and a large rock hits my face. Then I woke up shaking.

I don't really know what the dream was suppose to mean. That I'm a loser? All I know was when I woke up, I was sad and angry, but had no one to be upset at. maybe I should be upset with myself. Maybe deep down, I'm the same petty person I've always been. Maybe I haven't changed at all.

If you're a Photo Major or a Photography enthusiast like me, then Mika Ninagawa is someone you probably have already heard of. Especially if you love bright colors and japanese culture (Aunt Lisa <3). She’s one of the most commercially successful Japanese photographers alive. Mika Ninagawa does portraits, advertisements, films and she does intense still life shots of flowers, trees and goldfish. Her work is famous for rich, saturated colors. I love her.

Her Portfolio has some great shots of the insides of houses in Latin America and little kids and really old theme parks. My favorite book was about ‘everlasting flowers’ and was just hundreds of pictures of fake flowers. I also really enjoyed her movie, Sakuran. I highly recommend it if you love colors like me.

Too bad to was nearly un-concious at the time. I felt bad for not being more enthusiastic and communicative that day. Even if it looked and sounded like a didn't care i did and do. Friends have been up to some pretty crazy stuff and I'm still kind of absorbing it all. Sometimes, I worry about some but I'm going to try and look at this from multiple lights.

Droopy Mo-hawk is gone and Kate seems happy about that. I didn't really meet him so i can't give an opinion.... hmmm

too much to do today.

It wasn't until smelled Philli, that realized how comfortable and settled I felt here. It may not be the prettiest of cities, but to me it's in second place behind New york. The truth is I misse my philli friends and thier vivacious nature. So much has happened since I came back, I wish I had the time and the space to rewrite it from my sketch journal, but some things are best left to me. The truth is I'm still not used to having internet again. It was wierd only being able to use the home computer. It's pretty old and unstable. Most of my attempted posts were lost.

I suppose the worst thing that happened to me was being sick and a missed love interest. I swear I never want to be sick again, as long as I live. Although thanks to that little flu, I dropped all the weight, I gained since homecoming. A couple hours of cardio per night and I might feel ready to wear a bathing suit in public.

As for the missed love, that's another post all together.

I decided the theme for this summer is citrus, soft breezes and the smell of old books.

Tomorrow I'll make a list of all the books I got to read so far and little reviews about them. Oh, and post about finding some late edition books in my basement. Try to guess the authors!!!!

Bo today, I blatantly skipped 2 classes: karate and Observing humans, due to my being completely exhausted and having waaay to many papers to handle. I was not only able to finish my 2 proposals for class, but start 2 big essays and watch 2 episode of house!!! so good. I won't write about it because, well, spoilers. everyone gets so upset about spoilers, but they just want me to watch the program more. so odd.

So here I am with Kate, Jess, Niki, Ryan1, Ryan2, John, Lexi and Elli working on hw. I've barely progressed at all. See!!!

Yepp. I'm in trouble. Luckily, I'll be working all night and all tomorrow, Should it should be finished... should. I also did my Typography pages, and they're looking pretty redic. and by redic I mean ridiculous.

So yesterday, I was a total mess. I mean it. Hot Tranny mess. My eye was still screwed up and I had one of those "none-of-my-clothing-looks-good-on-me" days. Total Bum-ness. I wanted to go shopping, but I made a new rule for myself I'm only allowed to buy new clothing if I really need it (ex: All my socks disappear in the wash, or new pants because my old one ripped). I wanted a new book, but then I realized that I borrowed one from my aunt already (one that I have yet to read) but it's such a Fff-ed up book I didn't want to read it .(long story short: this woman kills her nasty and senile elderly mom. I know. what the hell?) So I think to myself. What could I possible do to make myself feel better for a little bit? and Then the answer came to me...

That's right, bitches. I bought me some cupcakes and now I'm gunna eat them.. mmmm mmmm mmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!

Okay, so now that the food porn is over, I'm going to talk about something that has plagued almost everyone at anytime in thier life. Food vs. Fashion. Food and fashion have never exactly gotten along ever since thin was in (aka: Fashion after 1912). If you eat too much food, fashion deems that you don't look as good in most clothes than those running from sweets and bread do. If you stop eating food, you look great in - hmmm, let's see - anything from a dirty boho dress to a bandage jacket, but you endanger your health and become -lets face it- a big of a crum bum. Seriously, no wonder models look so pissed on a runway. It must be torture for them to do a shoot with pasties and sweets. As someone who used to be on the verge of fashionably figured and is now somebody who has learnt her lesson through high-school pressure and binge eating, it is in fact possible that you can be fashionable and still be a size 7. or six... I'm trying for six.

Lets accept it, Fashion AND Food belong together like fats kids and cake.

So next time you hear someone says they're fat, or you see a model fake eating a sandwich on the tele, remember this:

Back from Boston and in a cripple pickle

Back from Boston. I am actually writing on Word document on the train right now. No internet and i forgot my book and i misplaced my sketchbook. It might just be in school or in a weird spot in my room somewhere. I had the worst possible day today. I think I lost my camera which had all of my boston pictures in it. They're all really pretty for some reason. I had a really good feel for photography this week. Maybe it was the lack of pressure of school or me trying to hard to impress. But they were very pretty. But yeah, i wanted to post them on the blod, but now i can't. Why dosen't anything ever go to plans. Boston was beautiful, but no one called me besides my friend in boston... it was weird. I had never felt so alone in a long while. It made me wonder if anyone had missed me the least when i was gone. Enough self pitying crap. onto why i am writing in the first place

Reasons why today sucked:

1. Lost my camera
2. Lost my ticket and the ticket Nazi said i had to buy a new one!!! (doesn't he know how much Amtrak costs nowadays???)
3. My aunt had to pay for it.
4. I was blind in one eye for the entire week in boston. It was kind of cool if it didn't make doing artwork so hard
5. I realized how much I missed my long hair
6. gained 5 lbs from my aunts cooking
7. did my expressimental and it sucks...
8. all alone on a train, which made me realize what a loser i was

Resons why today shouldn't suck too bad...

1. My family might adopted a puppy! (her name is lucy and she's a rescue dog)
2. Mom got a fuel efficient car (yay enviroment)
3. i got to eat homemade udon on the train ( my aunt and I made it)
4. got a free cd from aunt Donna (letters to cleo!)

aparently i'm blind in one eye for a while. I don't know what wrong but everytime i put in my contact I get mad stinging madness... god hates me. alot.

i really shouldn't be complaining. but sometimes you just got to let yourself feel pathetic. I just want to have one perfect week where nothing goes competely wrong. Maybe monday will be a good start to the week and wont kick my ass...

I dunno why but i've been falling behind lately. I even had to miss Steve's Vday bash just so I could catch up. I wasn't along in the studio which was a complete plus because it didn't make me feel as I initially felt. I miss people and social events. and it's only been a week!. I did get quite a bit done though I start creating my book and I made my Illustration box for Gigger's class. I started my self portrait but it sucks so bad I want to burn it. I hate drawing myself.. i have like the weirdest dimensions. I'm going to try to finish it tonight... I also still need to buy paints from Fish. I can't believe he finished his Ely: what a weight off his shoulders, Huh? Elli's self portrai looks amazing which is just making mine seem all the more awful...

nsbourg's humor in it. The lyrics from are pretty ironic and should'nt be taken too seriously. 5.Home Coming- The Teenagers: This band was originally formed as a joke, and they ended up being really big. I found out about them when I visited Brussels with my sister and dad. They were playing while we were in an airport store and I pretty much just walked up to the cashier and in very very broken french asked him what band that was called. Luckily he spoke english and told me. A lot of people have noted their self-aware and intelligent lyrics and praised their lush, danceable pop music. Plus they're totally hot and so cute. Great music with great looks = amazing time for me.

6. Girls and Boys- The Subways: If you in a more I hate people today kind of mood, this song will swig up those feeling a little bit more and bring it to a head shaking fun stop. They are this really fun Britain punk band.

7. My Maudlin Career- Camera Obscura: This band is the sweet sways of the snow and sun for me. Every-time i listen to them everything bad kind of just flows away for a while and I'm settled with my world. The album "Wire Waltz" just gets better and better with every listen.

8. Penny on a train track-Ben Kweller: Need I say more? I think not.

9. Love in a Trashcan-The Ravonette: Okay I've seen these guys live and they know how to put on a show. They're this really fun but uber mellow indie band. They're music is kind of like slowly coming off party adrenaline. You're kind of dirty, sweaty, and your mellow is slowly coming back, but you're utterly pleased and satisfied with this feeling. Okay.. That is the Ravonettes.

10. Question- Old 97's: I'm putting this because Jess Nicholls pretty much serenaded me with this song and told me that this song was like me. So .... BAM! plus it's a pretty sweet track.

It comes time when a young woman needs to change her image... mine time was about 5 years ago and it was time for a huge change... so.. I cut my hair. Well, actually friend Nina and her kick-ass roomie, Courtney did it. It was such a spontaneous thing. I first went over to Nina house and she was just giving herself a trim (she's adorable in a quirky Amelie meets flannel and boxed wine) and before I know it all of my hair is getting cut off. it's very cute. i feel extremely French with it for some reason... so i washed after the crazy moustache b-day party at Ryan's building and blew it out and wore it with my School girl meets Grunge outfit. It feels good having a change in my life.
